Abstract

Diplomacy is an official activity carried out by representatives of one country in order to reach an agreement with another country. In fulfilling the national interest of a country, several foreign policies have been set up to achieve the objectives of diplomacy. Identically, diplomacy is an official activity carried out between countries and consumed by the public / society through mass media which is a medium for diplomacy. Along with the times, official diplomacy is now beginning to shift towards non-official diplomacy. Where this diplomacy is carried out by the public / community as a diplomatic actor with cultural elements in it. This diplomacy medium is driven by a Japanese-language musical theater whose members are students as the nation's next generation of a country. This research focuses on the Enjuku Theater as a medium of Japanese diplomacy towards Indonesia through its cultural elements called cultural diplomacy. This theater created a song with the title of の言葉で歌いたい(Kimi no Kotoba de Utaitai) and that was specifically presented to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Japan-Indonesia Diplomatic Relations which was conducted by Japan and Indonesia in 2018 which was show in the Music Festival. This research aims to reveal how the song created by the Enjuku Theater can become a cultural diplomacy carried out by the Japanese state of Indonesia by analyzing song lyrics in a textual / semiotic semiology. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with semiotic analysis of Roland Barthes (5 codes) to dissect the song lyrics in accordance with the research needs. This method is used to uncover the meaning of cultural diplomacy from song lyrics in hermeneutic code (puzzle), semic code (connotative), symbolic code (symbol), proaretic code (action), gnomic code (culture) carried out by the Japanese state towards the country Indonesia through a medium of diplomacy namely the Enjuku Theater
