Abstract

ABSTRACT In the operations of drilling may occur that interfere the drilling operations both in terms of manpower, time or costs and finally it is not according to the plan. The interference caused of found shale/clay’s layers which isreactive. KCl polymer mud is mud systems most commonly used in drilling. The basis of this system is the encapsulating anionic polymer fluid such as polymer wrapped powder drill (cutting) when cleaning the hole bore. KCl in water will decompose into ions K and Cl-. In stabilizing of the mineral shale, theK ion –ion will replace the positionofthe Na+.So inthe K ion shale plate will be bound far stronger than between Na ion with a plate of clay between the clay and water, so that the thrust – reject the clay plate between particles in the water will be reduced. The stronger attraction draws between clay it will be more and more water is free between the clay out of the system. This is because of K ions have a large atomic radius, which can close the microfracture shale and prevent water to come into the micro fracture then reducing grying (hydration) shale. The main goal is accomplish with doing testing in the laboratory formulation of KCl polymer mudinthe "A" well expected tobe usedas reference material inorder todetermine the concentration ofKCl polymer mudinoperating activities drilling on the next wells existing on Bunyu. Especially concerning of swelling problem in formation shale/clay. Keywords: Shale, Swelling Problem, KCl Polymer
